Quick answers, what to try when something does not work, and how to report a problem.

Frequently asked questions

Is DummyDrop free?

Yes. DummyDrop is free to use, with no account and no payment. It is not open-source software; the Terms of Use explain exactly what you may do with it.

Does it collect or send my data anywhere?

No. DummyDrop has no server, no account, no analytics and no network calls. Your settings stay in your browser's local extension storage. The Privacy Policy lists everything it handles and where it stays.

Why does it say "Click the DummyDrop icon on this page"?

This appears when DummyDrop is kept open (in the side panel or floating window) and you move to a tab you have not clicked it on. The browser gives an extension access to a page only after you click its icon, or press its shortcut, on that page. Click the icon once and it scans straight away. Access carries over while you stay on the same site and is dropped when the tab goes to a different site.

For sites you use all the time, press the shield button to let DummyDrop work there without the click. The browser asks you once, for that site only.

A form inside an embedded frame is missing. Why?

Frames served by a different site, such as an embedded payment form, are out of reach of the access a click gives. DummyDrop shows a notice with an Allow access button. Press it, approve the browser's prompt for that one site, and the frame's fields appear. You can remove the access later under Always-on sites in the settings.

Why was a field skipped?

DummyDrop skips a field instead of filling something wrong, and the message after the fill says why. Common reasons are a character limit shorter than any valid value, a pattern that cannot be satisfied, a dropdown with no selectable option, or none of your saved values fitting the field.

Why is a sign-in or password field unticked?

Fields that look like a real banking login or password-manager flow start unticked, so they are never filled by accident. Tick them yourself if you do want them filled.

Does it submit the form?

No. A fill only writes into fields. Submitting is always up to you. One rare exception is outside DummyDrop's control: a page that calls form.submit() from its own change handler.

How does Undo work?

Undo last fill (or the Undo button in the result message) restores the exact previous value of every field changed by the latest fill. It works while the page stays open; reloading or closing the page clears it.

A field was detected as the wrong type.

Use the type menu in that field's row to choose the right one. DummyDrop remembers your choice for that field on that site. If it keeps getting an ordinary field wrong, please report it (see below) with the field's label and what it was detected as.

The website still says a value is invalid.

DummyDrop makes values valid for their type and for the field's own limits, but a website can add rules a browser cannot see, such as checking a pincode against a list, or refusing an email domain. Try another email domain or country in the settings, or enter that one value yourself. If you think DummyDrop should have handled it, please report it.

The keyboard shortcut does not work, or I want to change it.

The defaults are Alt+Shift+F (open DummyDrop) and Alt+Shift+G (fill all with the active profile). If another extension or program already uses a shortcut, the browser may leave it unassigned. Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts (or edge://extensions/shortcuts, brave://extensions/shortcuts) to set your own.

The floating window or side panel does not appear.

Check that Keep DummyDrop open is ticked in the settings and that Where it opens is set the way you want. The floating window cannot appear on pages the browser does not let extensions run on (browser pages, extension stores, PDFs), and it sits below the browser's own interface and below full-screen video. If the page is an ordinary web page, click the DummyDrop icon on it once.

How do I delete everything DummyDrop has saved?

Open the settings and use Reset (it asks you to confirm). That deletes your saved values, profiles, site rules, remembered field types, settings and the saved window position. Removing the extension also deletes its storage. If you exported a backup, delete that file too. Site access you approved can be removed under Always-on sites.

Browsers

DummyDrop is built for Chromium-based browsers that support Manifest V3 extensions: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Brave. It is not available for Firefox or Safari.

  • Chrome is where DummyDrop is tested most.
  • Edge is tested too. One part was not fully confirmed there: opening the side panel with the keyboard shortcut. If it does not open, use the toolbar icon, the popup or the floating window.
  • Brave uses the same engine and the same extension, but it has not been tested separately. Please report anything that behaves differently.

Report a problem

The best way is to open an issue on the DummyDrop support tracker on GitHub. You can also browse existing issues at https://github.com/harshil-kachhadiya/dummydrop-site/issues. A useful report includes:

  • the DummyDrop version (1.1.0 is the current one) and your browser and its version;
  • what you expected, and what happened instead;
  • the kind of page (and its address, if it is a public page), and the label and type of the field involved.
Issues are public.

Do not put passwords, personal information or the contents of private pages in an issue. If you think you have found a security problem, open an issue that says so without technical details or a way to exploit it, so that a safe way to share the details can be arranged.

DummyDrop is a free project, so the publisher cannot promise a reply time.
